WIP.
@jdm - this is the new profiler : "Blocked at IPC Receive"
Should I dig through all the calls to `ipc::channel` and replace them with this profiled `IpcReceiver`?

442a11937e servo: Merge #20051 - Disallow mutating the internals of TextInput (from jonleighton:prevent-invalid-selections); r=jdm
The TextInput::assert_ok_selection() method is meant to ensure that we
are not getting into a state where a selection refers to a location in
the control's contents which doesn't exist.

However, before this change we could have a situation where the
internals of the TextInput are changed by another part of the code,
without using its public API. This could lead to us having an invalid
selection.

I did manage to trigger such a situation (see the test added in this
commit) although it is quite contrived. There may be others that I
didn't think of, and it's also possible that future changes could
introduce new cases. (Including ones which trigger panics, if indexing
is used on the assumption that the selection indices are always valid.)

The current HTML specification doesn't explicitly say that
selectionStart/End must remain within the length of the content, but
that does seems to be the consensus reached in a discussion of this:

https://github.com/whatwg/html/issues/2424

The test case I've added here is currently undefined in the spec which
is why I've added it in tests/wpt/mozilla.

f120bdb1d1 servo: Merge #19909 - Refactor implementation of TextControl (from jonleighton:refactor-textcontrol); r=jdm
The intention here is to make the flow more explicit. I.e. rather than
calling `self.dom_select()` and relying on the programmer to
know/realise that this method is provided by a trait, we call
`self.selection().dom_select()` and the programmer can inspect the
definition of `self.selection()` to follow the code.

This came out of a discussion with KiChjang here:

https://github.com/servo/servo/pull/19544#discussion_r156167044

Note that I tried to make "selection" be a member field of
HTML{Input,TextArea}Element but it opened up a whole can of worms with
lifetimes, so it seemed simpler to not do that since it is not
essential for this code to work.

I used rust's builtin float parser to implement this. Rust's parser is more permissive than what browsers support (in this case), so I added some code to handle those edge cases.

This passes all the prewritten test cases locally, but I fell asleep last night before updating the manifests 😅

Jon Leighton
62f51c1881 servo: Merge #19461 - Handle cases where selection API doesn't apply (from jonleighton:issue-19171-4); r=KiChjang
The selection API only applies to certain <input> types:

https://html.spec.whatwg.org/multipage/#do-not-apply

This commit ensures that we handle that correctly.

Some notes:

1. TextControl::set_dom_selection_direction now calls
   set_selection_range(), which means that setting selectionDirection will
   now fire a selection event, as it should per the spec.

2. There is a test for the firing of the select event in
   tests/wpt/web-platform-tests/html/semantics/forms/textfieldselection/select-event.html,
   however the test did not run due to this syntax error:

   (pid:26017) "ERROR:script::dom::bindings::error: Error at http://web-platform.test:8000/html/semantics/forms/textfieldselection/select-event.html:50:11 missing = in const declaration"

   This happens due to the us of the "for (const foo of ...)" construct.
   Per https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Statements/for...of
   this should actually work, so it's somewhat unsatisfying to have to
   change the test.

3. I removed tests/wpt/web-platform-tests/html/semantics/forms/textfieldselection/selection-not-application-textarea.html
   because it doesn't seem to add any extra value - the selection API
   always applies to textarea elements, and the API is tested elsewhere.

4. If an `<input>`'s type is unset, it defaults to a text, and the
   selection API applies. Also, if an `<input>`'s type is set to an
   invalid value, it defaults to a text too. This second case doesn't
   currently work, and I'll need to do more restructuring of the code in
   a future commit. See discussion with nox in IRC:

Jon Leighton
6a360ec56d servo: Merge #19471 - Expand InputType to cover all possible types (from jonleighton:input-type); r=jdm
This came out of a conversation with nox in IRC:
https://mozilla.logbot.info/servo/20171201#c13946454-c13946594

The code I was working on which motivated this change is here:
https://github.com/servo/servo/pull/19461

Previously, InputType::Text was used to represent several different
values of the type attribute on an input element.

If an input element doesn't have a type attribute, or its type attribute
doesn't contain a recognised value, then the input's type defaults to
"text".

Before this change, there were a number of checks in the code which
directly looked at the type attribute. If those checks matched against
the value "text", then they were potentially buggy, since an input with
type=invalid should also behave like an input with type=text.

Rather than have every conditional which cares about the input type also
have to deal with invalid input types, we can convert the type attribute
to an InputType enum once, and then match against the enum.

A secondary benefit is that the compiler can tell us whether we've
missed branches in a match expression. While working on this I
discovered that the HTMLInputElement::value_mode() method misses a case
for inputs with type=hidden (this resulted in a failing WPT test
passing).

I've also implemented the Default trait for InputType, so we now only
have one place in the code which knows that InputType::Text is the
default, where previously there were several.

2eb5ca61f7 servo: Merge #19330 - Add a sanitize_value implementation for the color input (from Eijebong:sanitize_color); r=KiChjang
I had to change the test a little bit to avoid some failures due to
color and text both having a sanitizedValue which was making the test
use the first assertion instead of the second one in some cases.

The sanitize_value implementation is pretty simple, we iterate over the
content and checks that the content is 7 characters long, that the first
character is a `#` and then that all the following characters are
hexadecimal. If all those requirements are met, we lowercase the
content, otherwise we put `#000000` in it.

Nicholas Nethercote
45f978e547 servo: Merge #18938 - Replace all uses of the heapsize crate with malloc_size_of (from nnethercote:bug-1409255); r=SimonSapin
Servo currently uses `heapsize`, but Stylo/Gecko use `malloc_size_of`.
`malloc_size_of` is better -- it handles various cases that `heapsize` does not
-- so this patch changes Servo to use `malloc_size_of`.

This patch makes the following changes to the `malloc_size_of` crate.

- Adds `MallocSizeOf` trait implementations for numerous types, some built-in
  (e.g. `VecDeque`), some external and Servo-only (e.g. `string_cache`).

- Makes `enclosing_size_of_op` optional, because vanilla jemalloc doesn't
  support that operation.

- For `HashSet`/`HashMap`, falls back to a computed estimate when
  `enclosing_size_of_op` isn't available.

- Adds an extern "C" `malloc_size_of` function that does the actual heap
  measurement; this is based on the same functions from the `heapsize` crate.

This patch makes the following changes elsewhere.

- Converts all the uses of `heapsize` to instead use `malloc_size_of`.

- Disables the "heapsize"/"heap_size" feature for the external crates that
  provide it.

- Removes the `HeapSizeOf` implementation from `hashglobe`.

- Adds `ignore` annotations to a few `Rc`/`Arc`, because `malloc_size_of`
  doesn't derive those types, unlike `heapsize`.

http://www.robohornet.org gives a score of 101.36 on master, and 102.68 with this PR. The latter is slightly better, but probably within noise level. So it looks like this PR does not affect DOM performance.

This is expected since `Box::new` is defined as:

```rust
impl<T> Box<T> {
    #[inline(always)]
    pub fn new(x: T) -> Box<T> {
        box x
    }
}
```

With inlining, it should compile to the same as box syntax.

e0cca7f9a3 servo: Merge #17425 - cleanup embedder/compositor/constellation/script messages (from paulrouget:attach-pipeline-2); r=asajeffrey
Fix: #17226 #17200 #17201

This is work in progress. Some tests still fail.
I'd like to get early feedback as it's a pretty large PR.

There is nothing fundamentally new. Basically, I added TopLevelBrowsingContrextId to the relevant messages between the embedder, the compositor and the constellation, and enforced the PipelineId to be attached to each ScriptMsg (see #17201).

I unaliased all the ScriptMsg. It was getting difficult to understand the nature of the message as ScriptMsg was used aliased CompositorMsg sometimes (CompositorMsg is an actually type of message already). I renamed constellation_chan to script_to_constellation_chan, again, for clarification.

This cleanup code is necessary for #15934 and for tabs support.

/cc @asajeffrey can I ask you to look at this? No need for a formal review, I need feedback at this stage.

a33145477c servo: Merge #14738 - Properly dispatch keypress event (from Wafflespeanut:keypress); r=jdm
<!-- Please describe your changes on the following line: -->

This was an attempt to fix #14659. It turned out that the problem wasn't what I thought it was. So, I didn't fix that. On the brighter side, this fixes two related issues.

- Previously, we were unable to launch `keypress` events from `input` and `textarea` elements, because [we'd been cancelling](1327ebd52f/components/script/dom/htmlinputelement.rs (L1120-L1124)) the key events, so that they don't trigger window navigation - #8400). I've introduced an enum to represent an additional state to an event's cancellation.
- [According to the spec](https://w3c.github.io/uievents/#keypress-event-order), `keypress` (if available) should be dispatched immediately after `keydown`, and it should be followed by `input`. Canceling `keypress` should also cancel `input`. But, we'd been dispatching `input` before `keypress`. We now dispatch `input` once the `keypress` event is on the respective elements.

6250c60a7d servo: Merge #14043 - Update to string-cache 0.3 (from servo:string-cache-up); r=nox
Previously, `string-cache` defined:
*  An string-like `Atom` type,
* An `atom!("foo")` macro that expands to a value of that type, for a set of strings known at compile-time,
* A `struct Namespace(Atom);` type
* A `ns!(html)` macro that maps known prefixed to `Namespace` values with the corresponding namespace URL.

Adding a string to the static set required making a change to the `string-cache` crate.

With 0.3, the `Atom` type is now generic, with a type parameter that provides a set of static strings. We can have multiple such sets, defined in different crates. The `string_cache_codegen` crate, to be used in build scripts, generates code that defines such a set, a new atom type (a type alias for `Atom<_>` with the type parameter set), and an `atom!`-like macro.

The html5ever repository has a new `html5ever_atoms` crate that defines three such types: `Prefix`, `Namespace`, and `LocalName` (with respective `namespace_prefix!`, `namespace_url!`, and `local_name!` macros). It also defines the `ns!` macro like before.

This repository has a new `servo_atoms` crate in `components/atoms` that, for now, defines a single `Atom` type (and `atom!`) macro. (`servo_atoms::Atom` is defined as something like `type Atom = string_cache::Atom<ServoStaticStringSet>;`, so overall there’s now two types named `Atom`.)

In this PR, `servo_atoms::Atom` is used for everything else that was `string_cache::Atom` before. But more atom types can be defined as needed. Two reasons to do this are to auto-generate the set of static strings (I’m planning to do this for CSS property names, which is the motivation for this change), or to have the type system help us avoid mix up unrelated things (this is why we had a `Namespace` type ever before this change).

Introducing new types helped me find a bug: when creating a new attribute `dom::Element::set_style_attr`, would pass `Some(atom!("style"))` instead of `None` (now `Option<html5ever_atoms::Prefix>` instead of `Option<string_cache::Atom>`) to the `prefix` argument of `Attr::new`. I suppose the author of that code confused it with the `local_name` argument.

---

Note that Stylo is not affected by any of this. The `gecko_string_cache` module is unchanged, with a single `Atom` type. The `style` crate conditionally compiles `Prefix` and `LocalName` re-exports for that are both `gecko_string_cache::Atom` on stylo.
